Klett

Klett is one of the most acknowledged European publishers with a history dating back to the early 19th century. Now, with 67 companies in 33 locations in 15 countries, the Klett Group is one of the leading educational enterprises in Europe. The publisher has established itself as the leading private provider of educational and lifelong learning services.

The need

Complete Learning Solution

The traditional approach to education fell into oblivion many years ago. Today, publishers interact with students to stand out from the competition, and provide them with an attractive and, above all, effective form of learning. That’s what motivated Klett to come to us – the need to be the publishing house that creates engaging, modern content on its own.

Today, “Maximal” is a model example of a publisher’s product development carried out in an independent, self-guided way. It was made possible by the support of Learnetic’s complex solution: the authoring tool (mAuthor) and the platform (mCourser) that allowed the Klett team to define every detail of the product and deliver it in a way precisely adjusted to the target group.

The solution

Combination of powerful tools

mAuthor, a combination of a powerful authoring tool and a cloud-based e-development platform dedicated to building highly interactive digital content (and coordinating the workflow of the project teams involved in its creation), seemed to be the perfect solution. Indeed, the tool allowed smooth and highly efficient production of “Maximal” supported by the availability of over 140 ready, powerful modules.

The second tool recommended to solve Klett’s problem was mCourser, which combines the advantages of an LMS platform and a content marketplace. Its vast customisation possibilities have granted the publisher complete control over the licensing, subscriptions, content distribution, and market communication to increase the independent and effective monetization of the product.

The result

Combining printed and cutting-edge interactive materials

“Maximal” became an A1-B1 German language teaching series offering diverse teaching methods: from traditional, progressive, and blended learning to pure digital learning. The method provides an advanced didactic design with an innovative and situational approach to learning. Apart from a student book, the offer includes a comprehensive workbook and an advanced system for monitoring student progress. It also includes full teacher support with online access to the platform, video and audio, and a teacher’s guide with varied worksheets, student video exercises, lesson plans, and tests.

A few weeks after entering the market, “Maximal” has gained phenomenal market feedback, with teachers claiming that the series was the exact response to their needs.

“Maximal’s” paper and digital content are in a perfect balance allowing teachers to take different routes to achieve their goals and help individual students. Digital content provides students with a wide variety of learning materials – from grammar exercises to videos, animations, games, and so on. It was developed in line with printed books to create seamless cross-connections. However, this content had to be an independent part of the product to avoid being a sole digital reflection of the paper components. Its creation has been greatly enhanced by numerous mAuthor’s modules leading to design diversified, truly interactive and powerful activities.

Klett’s perspective

Klett’s team is greatly experienced in online content, with more than 20 interactive titles and 200 digital ones. For some time they decided to base the digital content production on mAuthor.

Learnetic’s perspective

This is one of those cases when the offered solutions exactly match the customer’s requirements. Of course, each order is a specific challenge, but it was mainly based on the implementation date. We were perfectly prepared in terms of tools, so we taught the client’s team, step by step, how to create modern content in a new tool, and how to publish and manage it on a specially developed LMS platform.
